Introduction
Black pearls originate mainly from the "Black-lipped pearl oysters" that grow in the tropical lagoons and atolls of French Polynesia, but black pearls are also produced in other areas such as Fiji, Australia and Mexico. But it was French Polynesia that introduced the world to Black Pearls and these shimmering dark gems have taken over the pearl world and are some of the most coveted pearls amongst new pearl lovers and connoisseurs.
Tahitian pearls, with their varied coloration, unique shapes and shimmering iridescence, can be used in every single kind of jewelry setting and are also favored by men due to their organic shapes and darker coloration.
For this section, we will again use the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) Seven Value factors system.
